Haskell Indian Nation University

Haskell Indian Nation football is on the upswing and 2013 may be the most successful in a decade. Coach Jimmy Snyder returns for his third season and hopes to improve even more in year three than the Indians did in year two. Taking over a program that had suffered recently, Coach Snyder held rein through a winless 2011, then broke HINU’s 20+ losing streak in 2012. A former student athlete at HINU during its Junior college days in the early 1990’s, Snyder seems to have things on the right track.

Returning in the backfield will be RB’s Cantu One Star, 5-10 162 and Chris Dupris, 5-10 190 to form a solid ground game. One Star ran for 4 scores in the season ending win over Trinity Bible and scampered for over 300 yards on the day. QB Dominick Panzy returns as well. The defense will be extremely young again with DE Justin Harter, 6-3 225 the lone senior. Help though is on the way in the form of a 40+ man recruiting class.

The Indians ended 2012 on a high note, defeating a team they had lost to twice the previous year. With a scheduled toned down a bit, it’s not unimaginable that HINU can pull out 2, 3 maybe 4 wins this fall. Snyder seems to be a man on the mission to return the Indians to the glory years: it might take just a bit more time.
