Texas College

Texas College is coached by one of the all-time great line-backers in Big 8 history, George Cumby.  The former Sooner is originally from Tyler, Texas and is taking a slow and steady pace with the Steers.  Cumby took over a program that had one win in two years and made the squad competitive in his second season with 2 wins while staying with a score of league champ Langston.  He starts 2013 off with QB’s Vincent McNeil and Milton Harper who share duties last fall and combined for 1200 yards passing and 9 TD’s through the air, but McNeil’s the better rusher.  Though they lost all-league WR Johnny Thomas, Ja’Marius Allen and Jamal Johnson should produce good numbers.  The Steers lose CSFL Defensive player of the Year Dontay Livingston, but return soph. Sam Houston and Luis Castro up front with Henry Tapps and Michael Lazard at linebacker.  The unit was solid in CSFL play, allowing just 14.2 ppg against NAIA rivals.  Look for the Steers to take another step this fall with a winning record and possibly challenge for the title.  They’ll rely on the defense early until the offense comes around.
